Mixteco Website Demonstrations
California is estimated to have around 170,000 indigenous migrants from the Mexican states of Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Michoacán, including Mixtecs, Zapotecs, and Purépechas. Many individuals in these communities primarily speak their indigenous pre-Columbian languages, which can create significant language barriers. Their rich cultural traditions and distinct belief systems may also set them apart from other Latino populations, sometimes resulting in social isolation and limited access to essential services. A large number of Mixtec speakers work in the agriculture industry, making them an essential part of our local workforce and community. To help bridge communication gaps and improve access to resources, we have created instructional videos in Mixtec to guide users on how to navigate our website effectively, ensuring it is accessible and user-friendly for native Mixtec speakers.
